The truth is Americans are highly pompous regarding their language. Due to the prominence of the English language in today’s world, they have slowly become more complacent. Nearly every country in the world makes its students to learn to speak (at the learn to speak spanish bare minimum) English and the country’s native language; indeed, if you visited a European school, you’d discover that the children spend a lot of time learning not just their native language, but also the languages of their neighboring countries too.
